Latin America. In the age of hyperconnectivity, telecommunications networks have become the backbone of the modern hotel experience. From digital check-in to ultra-high-definition content streaming, including operational management systems, network infrastructure must guarantee security, stability and scalability.
In this context, certification standards for telecommunications equipment in the Hospitality sector have reached unprecedented levels of demand, with Marriott International being one of the most rigorous global benchmarks through its GPNS (Global Property Network Standards) program.
With a presence in more than 130 countries, 7,000 hotels and 1.3 million rooms, Marriott not only establishes advanced technical requirements for its network infrastructures, but also implements a homologation process that evaluates everything from cybersecurity to the ability to integrate with complex technological ecosystems.
For a manufacturer, obtaining this certification means passing a filter that combines laboratory tests, on-site audits and pilots in real operating conditions. Reflecting its commitment both to the objective of meeting specifications, and to demonstrating that the solution provides differential value in an environment where service availability is critical.
This is the case of the Spanish manufacturer Televes, which has recently certified its GPON equipment at Marriott. An achievement that will become a first-rate technical endorsement.
The impact and global projection of Marriott's certification
"Marriott's certification transcends technical recognition to become an accelerator of Televes' global presence in the hotel market," says David Serramiá, director of Televes' Hospitality area, "functioning as a seal of quality that facilitates entry into projects where approval is an exclusive requirement." By appearing on the list of approved manufacturers, Televes' GPON solutions become eligible not only for new developments, but also for infrastructure modernizations in the network's extensive portfolio of properties.
At the same time, this milestone reinforces the company's position as a specialist in solutions for the hospitality sector, even outside the Marriott ecosystem. All types of independent hotels and regional chains tend to take the standards of multinationals as a reference when selecting technology. This certification acts as a multiplier of opportunities in emerging markets, where the digitalization of hotel infrastructures is advancing at a rapid pace.
Televes' continued commitment to manufacturing excellence
Guillermo Fernández, technical director of Televes' Hospitality area, comments that "Marriott's approval is not an end point, but the beginning of a cycle of continuous improvement." The exhaustive homologation process has allowed the Galician company to implement reinforced internal controls ("in-house") to ensure that each component of the GPON equipment maintains the standards that led to the certification. This includes, adds Guillermo, "regular security reviews, proactive firmware updates and active monitoring of emerging vulnerabilities".
Extending the security of GPON solutions specifically designed for the Hospitality sector that already stood out for a series of key differentiating benefits, among which the following stand out:
Expanded capacity: support for up to 16 services on different VLANs (compared to the usual 8 in conventional equipment)
Hotel-specific design: development for the particular needs of hotel infrastructure
Robust architecture: the GPON layer serves as a base infrastructure where other solutions are integrated, reducing points of failure
Remote management: ability to resolve incidents remotely, minimizing downtime
Hardened Security: Comprehensive assessment that ensures protection against vulnerabilities
