Latin America. In a context where technology catalyzes efficiency and sustainability, Siemens and Latinometrics present the second Industrial Outlook analysis, continuing with the exploration of the most relevant trends for the Latin American industry. In this installment, we delve into a key topic for the urban future: smart buildings.
In Latin America, the average density of smart buildings is 10 per million inhabitants, according to the recent analysis by Siemens in cooperation with Latinometrics. This represents only one-tenth of the density observed in the United States (~100 per million). However, regional success does not depend solely on market size, but on institutional alignment and public policies.
Countries such as Costa Rica (55th), Panama (33rd), and Chile (28th) today lead adoption by combining strong building standards, access to green financing, and the incorporation of international certifications, surpassing even larger markets such as Brazil and Mexico.
This new analysis seeks to show how digitalization, automation, smart infrastructure and solutions for energy efficiency can transform the way buildings are designed, operated and inhabited in the region.
