Ecuador. The vehicle manufacturer Kia inaugurated in Quito the Kia E-Ground, its first Experience Center in Sustainable Mobility Solutions in Latin America.
At the heart of this innovative space is an immersive installation developed and integrated by Ecuadorian company Skyluft, which uses nine Christie GS Series 1DLP laser projectors to deliver highly realistic images on curved and interactive surfaces.
Kia E-Ground covers an area of 1,400 m² and is 100% self-sustainable. This space has the mission of inspiring both the region and the world to move towards a greener and more sustainable future. It is a permanent exhibition that combines innovation and nature to connect visitors with the importance of sustainability.
The main installation is a 27 m² helical tunnel inspired by the Fibonacci sequence, a mathematical pattern that reflects how nature generates life, present in phenomena such as flower buds, seashells and galaxies.
There, visitors explore scenarios such as the marine fauna of Galapagos or the Amazon rainforest, with content generated in real time using Unreal Engine and interactive responses based on LIDAR sensors, which detect the movements of the public to provoke reactions such as fish that are frightened, jellyfish that react or flowers that are born.
To cover the curved walls and floor, Skyluft opted for Christie DWU630-GS projectors with Ultra Short Throw (UST) lenses, capable of delivering large images at very close range in tight spaces. The projectors are installed on the ceiling of the tunnel in a spiral shape: three project to the floor and the others to the curved walls of the space.
"We chose Christie projectors because of their reliability and performance. The DWU630-GS models offer low maintenance, maintain uniform illumination over time and, thanks to the new UST lenses, allowed us to meet the challenge of projecting in a complex space with variable radii," explains Roberto Mendizábal, CEO of Skyluft.
He adds: "The complexity of the spiral shape and the need for precise warping with nine projectors made this project a unique challenge in the region. The Christie RealBlack™ technology in the projectors helped us a lot in the blending and was key to achieving a flawless result. The equipment is spectacular and, in addition, we chose Christie's One Mount mounts to facilitate the alignment of the projection; It was really the best decision, it simplified the adjustment work a lot. Thanks to this combination of factors, we achieved a realistic and interactive space that today receives more than 500 visitors daily."
In addition to Christie projection, the system integrates Kramer solutions for HDBaseT signal transmission, VIOSO software for warping and blending, and high-performance servers that allow interactive content to be generated in real time.
Kia E-Ground is presented as a benchmark for the brand in Ecuador and in the region, aligned with its global sustainability strategy "Plan S". The installation, already recognized as a finalist in the CALA Awards in the category "Best AV Integration Project in Latin America", combines technological innovation and environmental commitment to bring the public closer to a future of electric mobility and respect for the planet.
