Latin America. As you walk through the front door of the Telemundo Center in Miami, the sound of JBL is everywhere. From the glass-enclosed atrium to broadcast control rooms, post-production rooms and live event spaces, NBCUniversal's Spanish-language division has built an expansive audio environment around JBL Professional's comprehensive speaker system.
This integration begins in the most acoustically complex space of the building: the atrium. A visually striking yet highly reflective glass enclosure, used for premieres, public gatherings and client events, the atrium required a solution that offered clarity without overloading the space.
"When starting this project, we had to look to minimize the energy in the space, as it is completely glass and has a lot of life," said Robert Acito of Acoutech, the audio contractor in charge of the installation. We were looking for the best solution to keep the energy low in the space, but also directed where it was needed. This led us to choose the zoned JBL SLP Series for dialogue, while also using CBT speakers and some VRX918 subwoofers for a full-range solution for TV show premieres and music events.
In the atrium, JBL CBT1000 column speakers provide precise vertical control for left, right, and center main coverage. The rear image for 5.1 playback is supported by JBL CBT70 column speakers placed on tripods. JBL VRX918S subwoofers complement the bass for full-range performance, while JBL SLP14/T speakers are used as a discreet distributed voice reinforcement system.
In the facility's various mixing, editing, and broadcast control rooms, JBL Series 3 and Series 7 studio monitors are used for critical listening, editorial review, and final delivery of audio. On the site's remote music truck, formerly owned by Acoutech and now operated by Tru Pixel Production, JBL 705P monitors were deployed to handle dedicated music mixes, independent of the main production signal.
"This wasn't just an event, and Telemundo isn't just a JBL customer, it's a JBL showcase," said Daniella Peters, Director of Tour Sales and Rental for JBL Professional. "They have demonstrated how an entire speaker ecosystem can unify an expanding media operation. This is an ecosystem story. And Telemundo shows what can be achieved when you go all-in."
This ecosystem was exhibited at its best during one of the most outstanding events of the year: the Billboard Latin Women in Music Awards 2025, broadcast live from the Telemundo Center and honoring icons such as Celia Cruz, Anitta and Selena Gomez, who was recognized as Woman of the Year.
For the awards ceremony, the main live event space, which is normally used as a sound stage, was transformed into a full-fledged theater. JBL SRX906LA line array speakers were installed to preserve visibility for cameras and producers, while SRX918S subwoofers delivered deep, punchy bass to audiences without compromising clarity. Return monitoring for the performers on stage was done using JBL VRX932LA-1 speakers, and the entire system was expanded with Crown amplifiers.
"Producers never want to see the speakers," said JC Aguila, Telemundo's Network Audio Technical Manager. "But the sound must be perfect, both for the audience in the venue and for the broadcast. JBL helps us solve that every time."
"It's not just about power or fidelity," added Raul Gonzalez, Live Sound and Rental Systems Application Engineer at JBL Professional, who collaborated with Aguila on the design and tuning of the system. "It's about having the right tool for each job. The JBL range gives us that flexibility in terms of performance, architecture and integration."
"We are essentially a JBL house," Aguila concluded. "From the moment you walk into the atrium to the final mix of the stream, every part of this facility has a JBL solution, and everything fit together perfectly for this event."
