Mexico. Artificial intelligence, growth of fiber optic networks, optimization of energy consumption, and mainly, growth of data center facilities in various regions of Mexico, were the main topics addressed during FIber Connect LATAM 2025, a professional forum held in the city of Querétaro in Mexico.
Artic, Belden, CommScope, Corning, Fyco, Lightera (formerly Furukawa), Padtec, Sumitomo Electric Lightwave, AFL, Clearfield, Condumex, EERO, FOM, NextData, Panduit, PLP, Power&Tel, Senko, Viavi, were some of the companies sponsoring the event and participating in the discussion tables and professional conversations.
Liza Poe, Business Operations Manager for Latin America at Corning Optical Communications, said: "We achieved excellent results in bringing in people of the highest level. Very prepared people, from companies like Amazon, Google. We leaned into that and it was a risk we took, but the result was fantastic. Maybe it's a test that we have to go to more specific places with a more structured and elaborate theme. Not so much in general that it talks about whatever, broadband, but about the specific niche. Here we are going to talk about the issue of data centers."
"The trends, the challenges we are having, the experiences, strategies that experts cannot bring and answer many of the questions that the market has and we still want to continue to be a reference association," added Poe, president of the Fiber Broadband Association LATAM Chapter.
"The data centers and Querétaro is largely about and that is why we are in Querétaro because its infrastructure is data centers. It has become a monstrous hub of data centers. Data centers do not charge for mobility," said Ernesto Piedras, CEO of the consulting firm The Competitive Intelligence Unit (CIU).
Simón Masri, president and CEO of C3ntro Telecom, described "I think it was commented by the panelists with their great contributions. What we are seeing is that the data has to be taken from point A to point B. And we understand point A being can be your mobile unit, it can be in your home, with your broadband, it can be any point and we've seen how from one point to another different types of networks are required. Nobody expects that in 5G, which we started at 1 MB, 10, 100, 300, 500 MB that you can have today with 5G, nobody expects to have 5 GB or 50 GB 500 GB of speed on their phone."
The presentation "The power Querétaro, the city as a preeminent focus for digital infrastructure developers in Central America and Latam", was made by Manuel Purón, Head of Solutions Architecture at AWS Mexico, who stated that the city in central Mexico will continue its growth and will be an adequate headquarters to invest at the country level.
For her part, Paulina González, Data & AI/ML engineer at Google, said that artificial intelligence will continue to grow globally at an accelerated rate, mainly: "It is always good, always to be aware that this is going to be evolving, it is growing and it is going to grow even more because it has not even been two years in which we have seen great changes, a boom in technology in general. So, I think we must be prepared for that. In Mexico we are advanced, we are on a par with other countries," said the professional.
Wilmer Puerta, Senior Product Manager for the Northern Cluster of Cirion Technologies, said: "We are a multi-country company, that is, we are a multinational company that is used to working in the conditions of each market and that is why we have local people in each country seeing a little bit of this market reality, understanding the day to day, understanding how one condition or another affects and based on that making decisions to basically maximize the investment strategy and maximize this relationship with companies a little."
Topics such as FTTH networks, mobile networks, energy optimization, cybersecurity, transport networks, fiber optic expansion, ISP's, smart servers, among others, were also addressed. The next events dedicated to Latin America of FIber Connect will be held in May in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and in August in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
