Mexico. Equinix opened its new MO2 data center in Monterrey, Nuevo León. With an investment of 81 million dollars, in this first phase, MO2 adds more than 720 cabinets to the operational capacity of Equinix Mexico, consolidating Monterrey as a strategic node for digital interconnection in Latin America.
Located in the city of Apodaca, MO2 joins Equinix's global ecosystem of more than 270 data centers. The new facility is designed to support AI-ready workloads with scalability and efficiency, reinforcing Equinix's long-term strategy to foster digital growth and diversification in the country.
"Monterrey is a city with enormous potential, where industry, innovation and connectivity converge, and Equinix built MO2 to be the facility where the future of digital Mexico is built," said Amet Novillo, Managing Director of Equinix Mexico.
He added that "Monterrey is a key region for the development and growth of Mexico as an industrial and technological center, with a growing demand for digital infrastructure by multinational companies, content providers and collaboration platforms."
Eduardo Carvalho, Managing Director of Equinix LATAM, commented that Mexico is one of the most dynamic markets for the company. "In addition, Nuevo León plays a fundamental role in this growth of access to a high-performance digital infrastructure, together with the adoption of both public and private Artificial Intelligence solutions. Its proximity to the United States and its robust infrastructure position it as a key center for digital transformation in the region," he said.
MO2 is designed to meet the highest standards of sustainability, safety and availability, and is expected to operate with 100% renewable energy coverage. The new facility is expected to have a total investment of approximately US$189 million once built.
