International. Agorà, a specialist in event technology, won the European tender for the construction of an audio and video distribution system for the 2025 Jubilee celebrations in St. Peter's Square in Rome.
Following the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, the system was also used for the solemn funeral, proclamation of the "Habemus Papam" and investiture ceremonies of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, with an estimated turnout of between 60,000 and 150,000 people.
In the tender notice, the customer expressly requested visually discrete solutions for both the support structures and the audio system, indicating the Firenze KH7 K-array loudspeaker as a specific reference. The facility, which remained operational for nearly two months, served two main areas.
Zone 1 comprised Via della Conciliazione, Piazza Pia, Piazza Pio XII and part of Lungotevere Castello, with a total area of approximately 28,000 m² and a maximum length of 700 meters. In this area, 12 towers of approximately 10 meters high were installed, each equipped with five K-array KH7 loudspeakers and their corresponding K-array KS7 subwoofers.
Zone 2 comprised Via di Porta Angelica and Piazza Risorgimento, with a total area of approximately 18,000 m² and a maximum length of 300 meters. Four towers, also approximately 10 metres high, were installed in this area with five KH7 loudspeakers and their corresponding KS7 subwoofers.
The KH7 and KS7 loudspeakers were powered by Kommander KA208+ amplifiers, controlled by a dual fibre optic network (primary and secondary), which were used to simultaneously transport audio, video and control signals. In total, the system consisted of 80 KH7, 40 KS7 and 65 Kommander KA208+ K-array amplifiers.
K-array's KH7 system proved to be up to the task, ensuring high audio quality, constant coverage and minimal visual presence – essential requirements for an installation in such a prestigious and sensitive context.
The audio project was designed by Daniele Tramontani and Valerio Motta, with the coordination of Alessandro Cerroni and Laura Garofolo, and the contribution of the entire Agorà team. Italstage was in charge of the structures, while Coop Insieme provided operational support to the team.
K-array's support was critical, in particular from Matteo Barbaro, Klaus Hausherr, Daniele Mochi and the Research and Development team, under the direction of Alessandro Tatini (co-founder and CEO of K-array).
