Colombia. Colombia closed its participation in FIEXPO, one of the most relevant fairs in the meetings industry in Latin America, with great results by receiving four international awards that recognize its commitment to sustainability, territorial legacy and the development of purposeful events.
The country was one of the great protagonists of the meeting, held between June 11 and 12 at the San José Convention Center, Costa Rica.
"These recognitions are a reflection of the articulated work between the public and private sectors, and Colombia's firm commitment to a sustainable, competitive meetings industry with a positive impact on the territories," said Carmen Caballero, president of ProColombia. "We are proud to be an active part of an industry that transforms communities and opens opportunities for the development of the country."
Among the awards obtained by Colombia are the award for the most sustainable stand and the special recognition to Colombia for its contribution to the sustainability and legacy project, both awarded to ProColombia. In the case of the award for the most sustainable stand, the FIEXPO Latin America evaluation committee highlighted the good practices in the design, operation and management of the exhibition space, valuing concrete actions such as the use of ecological and reusable materials, energy-efficient lighting, the digitization of content, the correct separation of waste and participation in the sustainable initiatives of the event. under the pillars of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Caballero added: "These awards highlight the approach promoted by ProColombia in the meetings industry: a commitment to events with a purpose, which generate a tangible legacy in the regions, promote economic development in all links of the chain – from local suppliers to large venues – and contribute to positioning Colombian destinations as responsible scenarios, sustainable and highly competitive for congresses and conventions".
In addition, María Eugenia Oriani, Meetings Industry Manager of ProColombia and Chair of ICCA Latin America & Caribbean, was recognized with two of the highest awards of the event: the Sergio Baritussio Latino Award, awarded by the magazine Eventos Latinoamericanos, which highlights professionalism and continuous contribution to the sector; and the FIEXPO Award Conni Ibarra, which recognizes those who leave a deep and positive mark on the international events community.
In this edition of the fair, ProColombia led the participation of 30 companies in the sector, including hotels, convention bureaus, tour operators and specialized venues, who presented an innovative offer under the narrative of Colombia, the country of beauty, reaffirming the country as an ideal destination for the meetings industry.
