Video mapping, an expression of contemporary art

Colombia. The art of projecting images in large formats on walls, constructions of irregular architecture and objects, has gone from being a show of crowds to become a true plastic expression that has gone from biennials and fairs, to museum halls and installations in the form of video art.

This language that creates and produces moving images, through video instruments, has created different forms of expressions such as video installations, video sculptures, ambient video and many other ways of projecting images on static or moving objects, on water, on smoke, on people, animals or on the same spectator public with the artistic manipulation of colors, graphic shapes and effects such as holograms, creative lighting, virtual reality and augmented reality with the use of powerful software, projectors and high-resolution screens.

Víctor Alarcón, Project Manager of InfoComm, the most important professional Audio and Video fair, which will be held from October 23 to 25 in Bogotá, assures that "the challenge of video mapping is very great, because with the passage of time, people are increasingly difficult to surprise, and being exposed to new media, it is very easy for them to lose interest, however, beyond technology, talent, imagination and the desire to surprise prevail."

For his part, Diego Rosero, Country Manager of Epson Colombia, affirms that "technology is fundamental in the development of digital art because today elements such as projectors of more than 50,000 lumens and LED technology have given a total turn to this artistic trend. Video servers and media server programs for the management of shows have made the mapping advance hand in hand with realism, versatility, color, brightness and dynamism of the images".

Artists such as Wolf Vostell, who  first used the electronic image as artistic material, Dan Graham, who has been experimenting with video art about sculptures for 5 decades,  Nam June Paik, pioneer in the use and manipulation of video from television monitors and Bill Viola, who became known for his works of altarpieces formed by images that compose narratives, are some of the pioneers of video art that in Colombia has an outstanding exponent of the new generations, Leonardo Vilar.

Vilar, an exponent of video art of the new generations stands out for the permanent innovation in the use of images and the use of the latest technology for his montages such as the imposing piece of video art called "Jaguara", which stood out in 2018 at the Burning man event in Nevada, United States.

Expert in the management of video and sound, Vilar will have a space at the InfoComm fair to be held from October 23 to 25 in Corferias, where he will be present at the activity of the audio demos in which some of the most outstanding brands worldwide such as All Music (db Technologies) will intervene. Yamaki (d&b Audiotechnik), Sonic Design (Adamson), Super Audio, DAS Audio, RCF and Audio Concept.

These demos will be held on October 23 and 24, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the great hall of Corferias and will give the opportunity to Colombian entertainment entrepreneurs to appreciate the latest models of microphones, consoles and speakers.

All the technological and conceptual trends of this art, based on professional audio and video technology, will have their own space this year at the InfoComm fair, an event organized by AVI Latin America & AVIXA, which will be held in Corferias and will bring together more than 50 speakers and multiple spaces dedicated to professional training around a large commercial exhibition and a professional networking space.
