New Sony professional wireless microphone system

Latin America. Sony's new UWP-D wireless microphone series offers the perfect combination of form and function for professional videographers, responding to the need for compact professional camcorders that are increasingly used in electronic news gathering applications and field productions.

"The new UWP-D series is the ideal complement to productions and applications that require mobility and speed and for which production professionals are using increasingly smaller and more compact handheld cameras," said Beatriz Pineda, Marketing Manager of Professional Audio at PSLA.

This new series can be used interchangeable lens cameras, giving cameramen more options to capture their content easily and in high quality. The components of the UWP-D series are small and lightweight, making them ideal for a wide range of field production needs. Three UWP-D series packages are available:

  • UWP-D11: Pocket Transmitter, Portable Receiver
  • UWP-D12: Handheld Microphone, Portable Receiver
  • UWP-D16: Plug-on transmitter (attachable),
  • Pocket Transmitter, Portable Receiver

The UWP-D series uses a new hybrid digital processing technology to achieve high-quality sound. This technology processes the signals by means of a digital compansion, and the transmission is carried out by conventional analog FM modulation. This improves transient response performance between transmitter and receiver, and can reproduce sound clearly.

The screen size of the UWP-D components is double compared to the previous UWP series, and it has a white background that makes it easier to read the information.

The new series employs wide frequency coverage, with available broadband coverage of up to 72 MHz. As a result, users can select a wider range of operating frequencies.

Automatic Channel Setting mode allows users to  explore channels and channel tuning features more easily. The Clear Channel Scan function detects unused channels, and IR Sync allows you to easily adjust the channels by sending information from the receiver to the transmitter via infrared communication.

The series receiver comes equipped with output level control, so that even if the camcorder or camera does not have input level control, users can easily make adjustments to optimize recording levels. UWP-D transmitters and receivers are compatible with Sony's WL-800 and UWP series.

UWP-D series components have a USB* terminal for connecting external portable USB power supplies. Users can also use rechargeable nickel-metal hydride batteries.

This series has been available since March.
