Scenario for new technologies

With the presence of 2700 companies and 140 thousand visitors, the fortieth version of CES (Consumer Electronic Shows) was held at the beginning of January; the exhibition took place in Las Vegas and stood out for the record number, both in exhibitors and in viistantes and products presented.

As expected by experts, this year saw the introduction of touchscreen phones similar to Apple's iPhone, the latest wireless hdTVs (they receive the signal via a wireless connection) and large LCD screens.  the nearly 20,000 products that were launched at the fair will soon be in stores where thousands of consumers will be able to purchase them and take them home.

Throughout these years, CES has positioned itself as the event that brings together and presents the latest technologies, as well as devices produced by the great innovators such as the CD player, DVD player, HDTV, Xbox, IPTV and satellite radio.

According to data from the Consumer Electronics Association, producer of CES, this was the year where more launches of new technologies were presented in the 30 product categories that make up the fair. Among them are recent generations of digital TVs including OLEDs, 150-inch plasmas, laser TVs, Wireless HD and innovative multimedia hearing aids and ultra-mobile computers, among others.

Among the technologies and devices that most caught the attention of the participants were the Wireless Eye-Fi SD card, which sends photos to a PC or any online photo site; GM's Cadillac Provoq which uses gm's fifth generation of fuel cells with a lithium battery to produce an electrically powered vehicle that does not use oil; the environmentally friendly Philips Eco TV, and the Motorola Moto Rokr E8 cell phone that goes from music player to phone with imaging device at the touch of a button, in addition to 15 other new products between screens, TVs, DVRs, cameras, DVVs and robots.

However, the screens and televisions were the ones that captured the attention of the participants the most, as happened with Panasonic's 150-inch plasma screen, which has a thickness of 27.4 millimeters, the same brightness of the 103-inch model and 8.84 million pixels of resolution (2,160 x 4.09) which means four times the specification 1080HD.

For its part, Pioneer Corp presented a plasma TV with a thickness of nine millimeters, the thinnest of the 50-inch series; while Hitachi Ltd showed its prototype LCD screen with a thickness of 3/4 of an inch, which will be on the US market in a short time. Sony will also begin selling the first OLED screen in the United States that is only three millimeters thick, a screen area of 11 inches diagonally and that presents 120 frames per second.

Other novelties were presented by Philips LG, among which are an LCD TV from Philips LG, which has a 52-inch touch screen and the new type of flexible electronic paper with a resolution of 1,280 by 800 pixels and 16 colors. As for innovations in IT, the Taiwanese company ASUS presented a laptop with a storage capacity of one terabyte.

In addition to the great technological deployment that was experienced at CES, the manufacturers exhibited their ecological products, capable of recharging with renewable energies in order to avoid the high energy consumption of electronic items. Within this field it was possible to observe the Bluetooth device Iqua 603 SUN, which is recharged with solar energy, as well as the laptop with a biodregradable housing made of Fujitsu corn and the silver and zinc batteries of the firm Z-Power.

In the same way, the organizers of the Fair joined this ecological campaign and carpeted the 150 thousand square meters with recyclable carpet and used a large number of biodegradable food containers.
