90 Christie teams project multimedia art exhibition

Christie

International. Christie's laser projectors are illuminating the rich history, culture and ecology of Damyang, an ancient city on the southwestern tip of the Korean peninsula, with breathtaking projections at a new media art exhibition.

Delight Damyang is the latest in a series of experiential art exhibitions called Delight conceptualized by renowned media production firm Design Silver Fish, specializing in space management and media content design.

This permanent exhibition, composed of 11 thematic galleries, is inspired by Damyang's folktales, which have captivated the hearts and minds of children for more than a millennium. Among the highlights are mesmerizing displays powered by nearly 90 D13WU2-HS, DWU1075-GS and DWU880-GS projectors, supplied by Christie SNC Alliance's trusted partner.

"Delight Damyang is the largest multimedia art exhibition ever held in Korea, and we are proud to deploy a suite of cutting-edge technologies – including large-scale projections – to realistically showcase Damyang's millennia-old mysteries and legends," said Gyong Tae Hong, CEO of Design Silver Fish. "Visitors will be captivated by the immersive and realistic visual effects achieved by nearly 90 Christie laser projectors installed in seven themed galleries that aim to reinterpret the rich ecological and cultural fabric of this symbolic place. These high-performance projectors fit perfectly with the content we have specially created."

Design Silver Fish has relied on Christie laser projectors on several occasions, including the acclaimed multimedia exhibitions Delight Seoul, Curious 12 Tales and Delight Seongnam, as well as the immersive digital exhibition "The Mysterious Village" held at the National Folk Museum of Korea late last year. "Although we are very familiar with the reliable D20WU-HS, this is the first time we have used the new DWU880-GS for our multimedia art exhibition. Its performance and operability in intensive use environments have met our expectations. The included warping and blending tools have also allowed us to set up multi-projection matrices quickly and reliably," adds Hong.

Visitors will be able to admire stunningly detailed images displayed on numerous screens and large surfaces by Christie's HS and GS Series laser projectors, discreetly installed atop seven themed galleries, namely "Moon", "Echo of Soul", "Delight Damyang", "Into the Mind", "An Olden Tale", "My Gallery" and "For the Future".

In "Into the Mind", the famous Metasequoia Road in Damyang is used as a theme to show magnificent landscapes of the four seasons using contemporary art techniques. The huge gallery is brightly lit by 36 D13WU2-HS projectors to create a fascinating immersive environment. An elevated platform allows visitors to enjoy the gallery's captivating images from a superior perspective.

christieYongso Waterfall in Damyang's Gamagol Valley has also been convincingly recreated in "Echo of Soul", using nine DWU1075-GS and eight DWU880-GS projectors, with bubbling sound effects. Motion-tracking sensors allow visitors to interact with the virtual waterfall by "splitting" falling water to generate fascinating water patterns on various surfaces.

Other highly successful galleries include "For the Future" and "Delight Damyang," which use five DWU880-GS and 12 D13WU2-HS projectors respectively to present eye-catching images that evoke a sense of pride and belonging to this small but beautiful town known for its bamboo products and strawberries.

Paul Lee, Director of Korea Sales for Christie's Enterprise division, comments: "Damyang's enduring history, culture and ecology have been beautifully reflected in this meticulously organised multimedia art exhibition by Design Silver Fish. We are delighted that our HS and GS Series projectors have been used to deliver stunning images and generate so much excitement among visitors. This is Christie's largest deployment of 1DLP laser projectors for a permanent installation in Korea in recent years."

Christie's HS and GS Series, equipped with laser lighting, eliminate the need to replace lamps and filters, providing 20,000 hours of operation at low cost. Wireless connectivity, small footprint, low weight, quiet operation and a complete range of lenses make them ideal for demanding and heavy-duty applications. Some models incorporate Christie Twist warping and blending software and Christie Mystique camera-based automated alignment tools, which speed up and facilitate the configuration, alignment, recalibration and maintenance of multi-projection systems.
