Datapath technology is installed in Uruguay stadium

Uruguay. To enhance the fan experience and keep visitors safe, three of Montevideo's soccer stadiums are leveraging advanced facial recognition technology and IP-based video.

The application of facial recognition in the three centenario stadiums, Champion of the Century and Gran Parque Central, was promoted by the Ministry of the Interior as a security measure against crowd behavior, a common problem during sporting events around the world.

The initiative was made through an investment by the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) and two of its clubs. AUF commissioned H&O Tecnología (DDBA Ltda), an integration company based in Montevideo, for this project. DDBA implemented Herta's facial recognition solution, Wavestore's video management software platform (VMS) and Datapath's iolite 600 videowall controller.

The stadium's new technology was installed with specific goals: preventing unauthorized persons from entering the grounds, identifying potential perpetrators if incidents are observed, capturing photographic evidence of violent acts, and helping to reduce the number of law enforcement officers at the scene.

Stadium operators wanted a way to visualize multiple streams of content, including surveillance footage from high-resolution Axis 20 Megapixel IP cameras. Integrated with facial recognition technology, several data streams and video streams had to be viewed simultaneously on three-by-three video walls.

"The level of integration achieved means that wavestore's VMS is able to facilitate the visualization of facial recognition events captured by the cameras on the Datapath video wall," explained Enrico Bizzaro, Head of Integrations, Wavestore. "These events, captured with the help of Herta facial recognition software, enable control operators to quickly identify if an unwanted person has entered one of the stadiums."

To fulfill such a high-profile project, the integrator and suppliers worked closely together. "Uruguay's soccer stadium project required close collaboration between Wavestore and Datapath to ensure that we could successfully integrate our respective technologies and provide a highly effective solution that met customer expectations," said Enrico Bizzaro.

Datapath's iolite 600 videowall control systems facilitate the visualization of live and recorded images captured by cameras selected by the operator in large video walls of the control room. They also offer a high degree of flexibility.

"With Datapath iolite, the configuration possibilities are limitless, and reliable performance is guaranteed," said Greg Babbs, Datapath Sales Manager, Southeast U.S. and Latam.
