Christie participates in the Fiesta de la Luz in Quito

Ecuador. For the third consecutive year Christie has participated in the Fiesta de la Luz in Quito, Ecuador, the largest festival of lights in Latin America. Fifteen Christie Roadster WU20K-J projectors made possible three spectacular mapping projections on the facades of the city's Cathedral and the churches of Santo Domingo and San Francisco.

This is the third festival of lights organized by the Municipality of Quito and that artistically illuminates the main historical buildings of the city. This year coincided with the 40th anniversary of quito's declaration as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The event was visited by 2.5 million people who toured the historic center for five nights.

The Ecuadorian rental & staging company 3Laser was responsible for the mapping projections of the party. It is the reference company in Ecuador in the realization of large-scale projections.

Ángel Cuesta, director of 3Laser, told the particularities of Quito when it comes to outdoor projections: "Unlike other cities in the country where we do mappings, Quito has special characteristics for its 2800 meters high and the high pollution that the city suffers. We've tested here with 18,000 lumens projectors and WUXGA resolution from other brands, and the lamps lasted halfway because they lack filters; they only have filters for optics. The pollution then goes directly to the bulb and that produces a black veil over the glass, as well as dust on the reflector."

He added that "In addition, at 2800 meters high, the fans rotate faster and the air is lighter, which makes the sensors of those projectors indicate that the optical filter is covered. To work without error you have to remove the filter, and that decreases the life of the optics by dust."

The director of 3Laser also detailed the features that appeal most to him about Christie's 3DLP ®technology projectors: "Their size and weight are ideal for placing in uncomfortable places, plus they can work in portrait mode. Also, the image and color remain stable over time. And they're very quick to set up."

The screenings of the Festival of Light were a total success and both the public and the press made very positive comments. "Live events don't allow you post production. They work or they don't work, there are no intermediate points. And, in this case, once again, the Christie projectors had an extraordinary performance and allowed us to exceed our client's expectations," concluded Ángel Cuesta.
