GsmA advances numerous new features of Mobile World Congress 2012

The GSMA has released details of its upcoming Mobile World Congress 2012, which will take place from 27 February to 1 March 2012 at the Fira de Barcelona Montjuic in Barcelona. The GSMA has announced that the CEOs of companies such as Alcatel-Lucent, AT&T, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson, HTC, NTT DOCOMO, Telecom Italia and Telenor will present keynote speeches during the Mobile World Congress which expects to attract more than 60,000 visitors.

The company has also introduced new elements and improvements to the program and exhibition of the meeting, further consolidating the position of the Mobile World Congress as the indispensable event of the mobile communications industry.

"Mobile communications are transforming our world in unsuspected ways, changing the way we work, live and interact," said Michael O'Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA. "At Mobile World Congress 2012 we will highlight the cutting-edge technologies, the most innovative solutions and services that are redefining mobile communications today and setting the tone for the future."

Keynote speeches

The GSMA today announced that the CEOs of many of the world's leading mobile communications companies will be speakers at the new expanded programme of keynote speeches at Mobile World Congress. The 2012 program will include 10 keynote sessions, including the opening speech of the Mobile World Congress that will mark the official start of the event during the morning of Monday, February 27, and the live keynote sessions of the Mobile World Live that will close the daily program of the event and will be broadcast live to tens of thousands of viewers around the world through the Mobile World Live portal.

Confirmed speakers for Mobile World Congress 2012 include the following executives:

-- Ralph de la Vega, President and CEO, At&T Mobile and Consumer Communications Markets, AT&T
-- Sunil Mittal, Managing Director and Chief Marketing Officer, Bharti Airtel

-- Hans Vestberg, President and CEO, Ericsson
-- Peter Chou, CEO of HTC
-- Ryuji Yamada, President and CEO, NTT DOCOMO
-- Franco Bernabe, Chairman and CEO, Telecom Italia Group
-- Jon Fredrik Baksaas, President and CEO, Telenor Group


In addition to the program of keynote presentations, the 2012 congress will offer special sessions on applications, integrated mobile communications, advertising for mobile communications, health in mobile communications, money in mobile communications, next-generation technologies and OSS/BSS, as well as sessions dedicated to business strategies, cloud computing, developing markets, devices, network capacity, regional issues and social media, among other topics.

mPowered Brands: Accelerating Mobile Communications Marketing

The GSMA will launch the mPowered Brands programme at Mobile World Congress 2012. It is a new and multifaceted program focused on the development of the knowledge of marketers and the acceleration of their use of mobile communications as a means of marketing. The mPowered Brands program offers professionals in the mobile marketing ecosystem an indispensable opportunity to acquire important and timely ideas, practical knowledge and innovative solutions from companies at the forefront of today's mobile marketing.

The mPowered Brands program comprises three key elements:

-- mPowered Brands Zone - exhibition dedicated to mobile marketing with providers of advertising solutions for mobile communications; includes advertising research, advertising networks and advertising solutions for mobile communications operators;
-- mPowered Brands Theatres - environment for marketers, advertising agencies, media companies and ad technology companies to welcome clients and prospects, offer updates to their business profile and solutions, present demonstrations of their products and services, case studies and workshops related to mobile marketing, and
-- mPowered Brands Mobile Ambassadors - designed as an exclusive, world-class program to get to know the mobile industry, aimed at marketers and brand leaders who wish to share perspectives and network oriented to the fulfillment of business objectives.


App Planet: the center of the Apps universe

For the third year, the GSMA will host App Planet, its award-winning "event within an event" for developers, with a unique space to explore the many dimensions of the changing and crucial mobile app market. The App Planet presents opportunities for the developer community and mobile communications professionals, from operators and value-added service providers to equipment and device manufacturers, to expand their expertise and connect them with other key players in the application space.

The Planet App is open to all attendees of the meeting and includes:

-- App Challenges - competencies designed to motivate developers to create cutting-edge mobile applications.

More than 1,400 leading companies in the large mobile communications ecosystem will showcase innovative products, services and solutions during Mobile World Congress. In the 2012 edition of the meeting Nokia will exhibit in a space of 2,300 square meters in the App Planet. Other prominent exhibitors at Mobile World Congress include Alcatel-Lucent, AT&T, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Google, HTC, Huawei, IBM, Intel, LG, Microsoft, Motorola, NTT DOCOMO, Qtel, Qualcomm, RIM, Samsung, SK Telecom, Telefonica, Telenor, Vodafone and ZTE.
