With IoT they seek to help people with disabilities

International. Offering through technology effective solutions that facilitate the day to day of people with disabilities, the elderly who need care or people with special needs and their caregivers is the objective of Smart Assist.

This collaborative research and development (R&D) project is led by Televes and also involves three other entities with extensive knowledge and experience in socio-health care: Vodafone Spain Foundation, Tecsos Foundation and the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

Smart Assist is based on technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and the analysis of big data (Big Data Analytics) to develop intelligent solutions that allow personalizing care by creating an environment that integrates mobile and home telecare, favoring security and accessibility to the maximum, while respecting and promoting the autonomy and privacy of people.

It is an initiative aligned with developments such as CareLife, the innovative ubiquitous telecare solution developed by Televes in collaboration with the Spanish Red Cross, Vodafone Foundation and Tecsos Foundation, and which has already been presented in important technological forums and the socio-health sector, both in Spain and abroad.

The Smart Assist project has a budget close to one million euros and an execution period between September 2016 and December 2018. The main objective of the project is the design and development of an intelligent telecare system that combines and integrates the benefits of different modalities of provision of the care service existing today (home telecare, mobile telecare and video care) providing new communication interfaces with users.

The proposed solution will guarantee people with disabilities compliance with the Principles of Universal Accessibility and Design for All, since the accessibility of all groups and intuitive and safe access to services will prevail, both by the end user and by the caregiver.

Finally, a fundamental element of the project is the integration of the solution with the most relevant IoT platforms, such as FIWARE, SOFIA2 or UniversAAL, so as to extend the scope and interoperability of the services offered. The project contemplates the development of a pilot of 25 users, with which its results will be evaluated.

The Smart Assist project is funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, through the Call for Challenges-Collaboration within the State Program for Research, Development and Innovation Oriented to the Challenges of Society.
