New dual projection solution from Sony

Latin America. Sony has announced the launch of its latest dual projection system, which puts industry-leading image quality within reach of those movie theater owners on tight budgets.

The new SRX-R510DS combines two SRX-R510 projectors to deliver a total of 18,000 lumens, a level of brightness sufficient for smaller independent rooms and boutique rooms looking to impress their viewers by providing them with a high-quality entertainment experience.

With the addition of the SRX-R510DS, Sony offers a full range of DCI-compliant 4K projection solutions for cinemas of all sizes. The new product joins the SRX-R515DS dual 4K system for large format displays that was announced at CinemaCon last year.

Customers using our current SRX-R515DS system include Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Latin American operator Cine Center, which has recently installed four systems in Bolivia. In Europe, Cinecittà Neurenberg and Broadway Kino Ramstein in Germany, Showcase in the United Kingdom and Mars Cinema Group in Turkey have joined, which has incorporated the dual 4K system to eight of its premium large-format screens.

The new SRX-R510DS and the existing SRX-R515DS system represent projection solutions that offer highly favorable costs of ownership compared to conventional xenon-based projectors. The HPM (High Pressure Mercury) multi-lamp array saves on electricity bills, while effectively avoiding the risk of the screen going dark. Even if a lamp fails, the presentation continues, without preventing viewers from continuing to enjoy the film. The replacement of individual lamp cartridges is done easily and quickly. Room owners also have the option to run the reproductions with a reduced number of lamps on to suit their operating preferences.

Like all projectors in the Sony Digital Cinema family, the SRX-R510DS immerses viewers in the action thanks to the realism and richness of color and detail offered by 4K. With an industry-leading average contrast ratio of 8000:1, projections come to life with deep blacks and radiant high beams.

The SRX-R510 projector pair offers a total of 18,000 lumens of light output, achieving 2D reference lighting levels on screens up to 15 m (with gain of 1.8) and up to 17.8 m wide for 3D on silver screens, with gain of 2.4. Sony's highly efficient HPM multi-lamp array and advanced SXRD optical system deliver on-screen 3D brightness equal to or greater than their equivalent 4 kW xenon-based single-lamp systems.

In addition, the SRX-R510DS also provides Sony's fully immersive 3D system, which ensures a high level of on-screen brightness that other systems can only achieve through lighting mirroring technologies. 3D movies released in 2K are converted to an equivalent 4K resolution, with the simultaneous presentation of images of the left and right eye. Setting up the system to toggle between 2D and 3D presentation is quick and easy and requires no change of objectives.

The projector, compatible with the DCI standard, can be configured for "side-by-side" operation or aligned vertically, so that it adapts to any projection stand. Installation is made easier thanks to the included intelligent automatic alignment system.

The SRX-R510DS further expands Sony's extensive range of projection solutions for cinemas of all sizes. It complements our SRX-R515DS dual 4K system for large format displays, which has experienced considerable success since its public presentation at CinemaCon in 2015.

The SRX-R510DS will be available in autumn 2016.
