Brazil. Rick Bonadio, the owner of Midas Studios in São Paulo, recently became one of the first studios to install Solid State Logic's new Duality Delta console. Used for large-scale audio production in Studio 2, the Duality joins two other SSL consoles; an AWS 948 Analog System workstation and a classic 4048 G+ Special Edition.
Midas is a big name in Brazil, who has had album projects from many of Latin America's greatest artists, including multi-platinum rock bands Mamonas Assassinas, Titãs, NX Zero and Charlie Brown Jr.; pop singer Luiza Possi; the sertanejo duo Fernando e Sorocaba; guitarist and composer Andreas Kisser; as well as the young musician and actor Mika Borges.
Bonadio, a longtime music executive with Virgin Records and Universal Music labels, as well as a producer, engineer and songwriter, uses Duality for recording and mixing projects for his label, Midas Music, as well as for commercial purposes by all customers of the four-room facility. "I wanted to have another great SSL," he says of duality, which replaced a console from another manufacturer. "I love ssl sound: I've used the 4048 G+ for almost 20 years, so Duality was the logical choice."
Like many audio professionals, Bonadío is a fan of duality's innovative hybrid approach, combining a traditional analog path and signal processing with the exceptional DAW console, and integration into a single hardware surface. The Duality, he says, "brings new possibilities to control Pro Tools and Logic Pro, to improve my performance and speed up all aspects of recording and mixing."
"The way it connects to the computer, and that it has all the buttons and transport functions at hand, allows me to focus on the sound," Bonadío continues. "I don't have to go from the console to the computer anymore, I can do everything from the ideal point. This makes the workflow faster, and always with great sound transparency. With this flexibility, and the great sound of duality, the console has made my life even happier."
