United States. Dolby (San Francisco CA) has decided to exit the live sound business and consequently announced the latest production operation of the Dolby Lake Processor (DLP), after which its manufacture will be discontinued. DLP has been employed by touring sound companies and performing arts centers to improve systems performance. In a letter sent to distributors last September, Dolby emphasized the accelerating shift toward integrated speaker processing, equalization and networked digital audio with amplifiers and power-powered speakers. Consequently, Dolby and Lab.gruppen (Kungsbacka, Sweden) signed an OEM license agreement for the exploitation of this trend, through the creation of an amplifier that integrates DLP technology. Lab.gruppen's PLM 10000Q Speaker Management system with "built-in DLP" has been launched, and more models will be introduced soon. With the success of this project, Dolby seeks to align its future corporate strategies. Distributors were given until September 30 to calculate their needs and place final orders. For more information and technical support for discontinued live sound products, please visit the page: www.dolby.com/professional/Live_Sound.
