internet

Chile. Ookla's Speedtest Global Index, which tracks countries' internet speeds and overall global average internet speeds, highlighted that last year Chile was the country with the fastest internet in the world, even above China and Singapore.

The report also highlights that mobile download speed increased by almost 17% over the last year globally, fixed broadband increased by at least 28%.

The improvement in global median download speeds has been somewhat asymmetric over the past year in the global Speedtest index. Fixed broadband speeds advanced more over the past year than mobile download speeds, with fixed broadband speeds becoming at least 28% faster and mobile nearly 17% faster between November 2021 and November 2022.

Gains in upload speed were even more pronounced with mobile speed at least 9% faster and fixed broadband being at least 30% faster. Latency, which is becoming an increasingly important metric, declined on mobile devices throughout the year from 29ms in 2021 to 28ms in 2022, while fixed broadband latency stayed the same at 10ms.

Chile moved ahead in fixed broadband

Romania's tenth place in 2022 would have taken fourth place in 2021, demonstrating how quickly these countries prioritize improvement in fixed broadband speeds.
