Biamp Receives U.S. Patent for Magic Cable

magic cable, biampLatin America. Biamp received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its Magic Cable, used in the company's Desono family of commercial audio speakers.

Magic Cable consists of two stainless steel suspension cables, two 18 AWG signal conductors within a separate cable cover, and integrated tear cords that allow the installer to easily cut the covers as needed, greatly increasing the efficiency of the installation.

"Traditionally, hanging speakers has been a complicated and time-consuming job, with many steps, each with different tools. Our Magic Cable drastically simplifies the work and only requires a couple of wire cutters. Plus, the whole set is encased in an attractive wrap, so there's no need to retouch or paint anymore," said Joe Andrulis, Biamp's executive vice president of corporate development.

He added that "Magic Cable makes it much easier and safer to install hanging speakers, which saves integration partners time and money. In addition, it is the only UL 13 certified composite cable in the AV industry, demonstrating our commitment to providing our customers with exceptional audio experiences, from design from installation to implementation."

Magic Cable's patent covers its innovative construction, a subfloor cover that encloses the metal support cables, a second subffordable cover for the insulated audio cables, the main tear cables, as well as subwires that allow each cable cover to be peeled without tools.

Due to its unique assembly, it also meets the UL 13 standard for limited power circuit cables with a class 3 rating for indoor/outdoor. With the Class 3 classification, it is "listed for a purpose," meaning there is no need to apply for an exemption if installed in lengths greater than 10 feet (3 meters).

The cable is also pre-presented with an outer shell that provides a clean appearance after installation without the need to soften sprains. With these well-thought-out features, it offers not only an installation that is easy, safe, and clean-looking, but also one that can be completed with confidence, regardless of ceiling height and/or exposed cable length.

Magic Cable is pre-terminated within Biamp's Desono P6 and P6-SM models to ensure there are no exposed connections on the speaker. It can also be used with other Desono pendant speakers, including DP6, DP8, P30DT and P60DT.
