Casio projectors get sustainability recognition

Latin America. Casio's LampFree projectors, from the Advanced and Superior lines, are the first in the world to obtain the new international TCO Certified - Generation 8 certification, which recognizes the degree of sustainability in IT products worldwide. The certification is awarded by TCO Development, a non-profit organization based in Stockholm, Sweden.

By receiving the TCO Certified – Generation 8 seal, TCO Development guarantees the sustainability, responsibility and transparency of LampFree protectors throughout their life cycle. From the production of raw materials, to the production conditions and their long service life, to their disposal, it is certified that these Casio projectors are sustainable.

To achieve the TCO Certified level, companies and their products must pass a series of tests with very demanding criteria. The new version of this certification, Generation 8, published in 2019, includes consideration of policies and management systems to prevent and respond to corruption. For the first time, the criterion of energy efficiency has also been included in the manufacturing phase. In addition, other test criteria have been revised in the new version of the TCO Certified seal, for example, evidence that the minerals used in the products come from socially responsible sources.

The TCO Certified seal is valid for three years, at the end of which the TCO Development committee makes an evaluation of the companies that hold it. Casio and its Line of LampFree projectors had obtained certification in 2016, so their renewal in compliance with the new criteria means a great achievement for the Japanese company.

In its production plants, Casio has an environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001, which ensures that the manufacturing process is ecologically and socially responsible.

"Casio was the first company in the world to use a hybrid laser and LED light source in its projectors instead of the more expensive and high-risk mercury lamps. This allows the service life of the LampFree models to be particularly long, up to about 20 thousand hours of use, which could be equivalent to more than 10 years. It is increasingly common for educational institutions and companies to look for products that help them with their green initiatives, and our projectors with the TCO Certified seal represent one of the options that IT managers consider," said Claudia Romo of Casio Mexico.
