In Basketball World Cup AV technology was the protagonist

International. The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 tournament kicked off in the Chinese capital with a spectacular opening ceremony that included the projection on stage of eye-catching visuals created with real-time video processing and Christie Pandoras Box show control.

The event captivated the audience with a striking cultural performance entitled Fantasia of Dreams, with live and live performers and lighting and projection effects on a meticulously designed stage, in which a giant "basket" with an internal and an external structure stood out. The show featured seven Pandoras Box Dual Servers, two Pandoras Box Quad Servers, three Pandoras Box Quad Players and two Pandoras Box Managers, all supplied by PDR China, Christie's partner in that country.

Dai-yuan Wang, CEO and Head of Technology Division at PDR China, said: "It is a great honour for us to have supplied the show control systems at this prestigious international championship known as 'the Basketball Olympiad'. With its comprehensive suite of software features and powerful hardware platform, Christie Pandoras Box is the perfect system to generate maximum creative results and deliver a great visual experience for audiences and viewers around the world."

Wang explains that the preparation of the opening ceremony section of the show lasted for a whole year, during which his team worked side by side with the organizing committee.

To ensure optimal and maximum impact visuals, PDR China produced a large number of virtually simulated visual solutions using a combination of the Pandoras Box system and a third-party design software.

Ultimately, all visual performance control systems, Pandoras Box among them, are perfectly connected to the MA control system to achieve real-time high-precision broadcast control, considerably improving performance.

Wang adds: "We are deeply satisfied with the result. The opening ceremony did not record a single failure. For me, that's the perfect conclusion to a great project that we've worked on tirelessly for over a year. The performance of Pandoras Box has been extraordinary. It is a system that stimulates you to create, to exceed your expectations. No wonder it has been used in so many television programs produced by China Central Television (CCTV)."

The tournament, held for the first time in China, was the eighteenth edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup. The matches took place in eight cities — Beijing, Foshan, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Nanjing, Shanghai and Guangzhou — in five different provinces.
