Casio campaigns with students on mercury risk

Mexico. Casio Mexico celebrated the closing of the first edition of its children's social responsibility program Eco Exploradores Casio, which focuses on raising awareness of the health and environmental risks posed by the use of mercury.

The children participating in the program had the challenge of researching and creating pieces of communication to inform about mercury and its potential danger, its historical and current use, as well as pointing out alternatives to avoid its handling in everyday life. The ideas, knowledge and communication proposals were presented by the Eco Explorers in an exhibition held in the Orozco room, of the Fiesta Inn Insurgentes hotel in Mexico City.

The first generation of Eco Exploradores Casio is made up of 30 students from Colegio Jesús de Urquiaga I.A.P., from fourth to sixth grade. These children, aged 9 to 12 and chosen for their academic performance, received information guides on mercury created under the supervision of science journalist Iván Carrillo, who also gave them a talk in which he invited them and motivated them to discover new knowledge through curiosity and scientific thinking.

Over the course of a quarter of work, The Casio Eco Explorers developed their communication projects in the form of drawings, infographics, three-dimensional pieces and videos. For this, they had the supervision of their group teachers and the support of the Art and Computing teachers of the Jesús de Urquiaga I.A.P. School.

From historical information such as the uses of mercury in medicine or makeup, revealing data such as its effects on the human body, both in the gestation stage and in adulthood, to the dangers of ingesting contaminated fish, the small researchers expressed their ideas with creativity and ingenuity.

To publicize the proposals of the Casio Eco Explorers, all the pieces of communication will be disseminated publicly through Casio Mexico's own media and social networks.

Where does the Casio Eco Explorers program come from?
Casio has a commitment to the care of the environment and respect for all those who inhabit the planet, that is why it promotes the dissemination campaign "No More Mercury", to inform about the possible risks of the use and exposure to this element, as well as the ways to avoid accidents and discover ideas that propose alternatives to its use.

The Eco Exploradores Casio social responsibility program is a local initiative promoted by the Video Projector Division of Casio Mexico and is part of the aforementioned "No More Mercury" campaign, promoted globally by Casio's corporate.
