Fiestas de Palmares had the latest in lighting

Costa Rica. The Fiesta de Palmares in Costa Rica, which venerates the Santo Cristo de Esquipulas, is one of the tourist attractions that the country has. . The atmosphere of the small coastal town of Palmares is filled with music and joy during the 10-day festivities, which also offers an abundant variety of food and drinks, a fascinating lantern parade and an exciting football tournament.

One of the activities of the festival that attracts more than 150,000 visitors, is the series of concerts on the stage of the Imperial Bar, with the participation of popular local and regional performers, as well as artists of recognized international prestige. The 2017 edition of the festival's concerts was no exception.

Produced by Eventos Especiales de Cervecería Costa Rica, the musical menu shook attendees with the spectacular performance of platinum rapper Sean Paul, as well as Gente de Zona, and Zion and Lennox. To support this vibrant series of performances, Ronaldo Goñi and Jairo Barrantes created an impactful lighting show with the help of 16 powerful Maverick MK2 Spot teams from CHAUVET Professional.

Rolando and Jairo hung the Mavericks on structures to the left and right of the center stage, and above the top of the forum. By directing the beams of light in and out of the outdoor stage, the Mavericks helped the LD's create an immersive visual aspect that reflected the intensity of the music. The designers also displayed attractive aerial effects, and a wide variety of crisp projections of gobos on stage throughout the festival.

"The Mavericks worked perfectly to help us create very intense lighting designs, and make great variations to keep the audience captive during the performances of the different artists," Rolando said.  "We were looking for a team that had the characteristics and power of a classic 700-watt spot,  and we found it in the Mavericks. We decided to invest in them as they are the right size to use them in all kinds of events, from a small bar to a large concert. We were really shocked when we compared them one by one with other Spots in our own inventory. They were superior in everything: power, color and gobos."

Rolando also praised the design work during the festival. "Our technical director and producer Jairo Barrantes León, lighting operator Guido Vasquez and lighting technicians Alejandro Cedeño, Andrey Eduarte and José Pablo Aguilera all put their hearts into making the stage look so special," he said. "This festival is a great pride for Costa Rica, and we are pleased that our lighting design has done it justice."
