Smart buildings generate growth opportunities

Edificios inteligentes generan oportunidades de crecimiento

Colombia. Tomorrow's Sustainable Smart Buildings are more adaptable and more unified than ever, requiring cabling solutions that are just as efficient and versatile.

According to the Ministry of ICT, in Colombia, the average connectivity speed last year increased from 50Mbps to 161.6Mbps and although fiber optics has been gaining ground in the market (growth of 3.7% compared to 1Q23), coaxial cable connections still dominate with 5 million accesses (-0.6%), followed by fiber. with 3 million.

PoE is the pioneering cabling technology that defines the digital age. By transmitting power and data within a single cable, it interconnects all of a building's smart technologies (such as lighting, indoor climate, networking, and security) to create a single, integrated, and seamless building management system that enables greater operational efficiency and up to 97% energy efficiency.

"From these more sustainable manufacturing practices, each year for the past five years, we have diverted approximately 4,000 tons of waste from landfills," explained Arthur Bolt, regional manager for Latin America and the Caribbean at Superior Essex Communications.

In Colombia, the company's most widely distributed products are UTP Cable, hybrids for towers, small cells, other 5G applications and recently a little PowerWise (cables to extend distances in networks). With the purpose of expanding its participation in the Andean circuit through continuous innovation in state-of-the-art OSP fiber and hybrid cables, the company will be present at Andina Link 2024, which will take place in Cartagena from March 18 to 21 together with its partner, Power and Tel.

"The growth opportunities in Colombia are ample thanks to the growing demand for advanced telecommunications solutions and the need to improve connectivity infrastructure. We see here a great potential for growth in the sector, its strategic location and the openness to adopt new technologies, becoming a critical point in our expansion strategy in the region," Bolt emphasized.

The company has paved the way for sustainability by being the first company with a Zero Waste to Landfill certification at its plant in Hoisington, Kansas; the first wire and cable producer to contribute points for LEED certification; and the first to offer verified sustainable cables in more than 50 products.

According to Cristina Herrero, sales manager at Power And Tel: "Superior Essex is one of our main partners, we highlight and value their constant effort in the design, creation and innovation of sustainable technological solutions that connect the world and allow all our customers to always be at the forefront. In our company we focus on the supply chain and in this we have more than 60 years of experience with the distribution of equipment and software for the Telecommunications industry."
