Argentina. According to the projections of brands such as Samsung, Philips, LG and Sony, 20% of the televisions that will be sold in 2012 will be with Internet access. This year, 1.5 million high-definition (HD) TVs will be sold, up from 1.3 million in 2010. On the other hand, the LEDs that went on sale in 2009 in Argentina, went from capturing 8% of the total HD in 2010 to 25% this year.
With these novelties and the greater availability of models, it is expected that SmartTVs will capture 10% of the HD market this year, from just 1% in 2010; by 2012, they would already contribute 15% to 20% of the total, according to the main brands.
Due to the growing demand, brands have insisted on developing new technologies in line with the flow of sales of SmartTVs. For example, Sony's Internet-enabled models include the Track ID feature, whereby the user can view the information (performer, title, album) of any song playing on the TV.
Likewise, a Samsung model incorporates the option to interact with other people on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter or Gmail chat in a box on the screen, while still watching the TV broadcast. Also, LG presented models with passive 3D technology, which offer a greater angle of view of 3D images and the use of glasses similar to those of the cinema, lighter and cheaper, which do not generate fatigue in the eyesight.
