Cocolab illuminated the pyramids of Teotihuacán

Mexico. Nineteen Christie Roadie 4K45 projectors were the protagonists of the video mapping show Night Experience in Teotihuacán, which illuminated the pyramids of the Sun and the Moon during the last year and a half, seeking to revive the greatness of this Mexican archaeological zone. It was one of the largest video mapping projects ever carried out in Mexico.

The show consisted of a series of projections that extended over the majestic Pyramid of the Sun, passing through the Causeway of the Dead, until reaching the Pyramid of the Moon, considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. They were illuminated with 20 million shades of color through Christie projectors, accompanied by a narrator who told the story of the Teotihuacan culture.

The company Cocolab, specialized in multimedia technology, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism of the State of Mexico, the Ministry of Culture and under the advice of the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico (INAH) worked for more than a year in the creation of this mapping.

Through a team of researchers, storytellers, lighting designers, scriptwriters, animators, programmers and engineers, Cocolab managed to build a night experience within the archaeological site of Teotihuacán, developing the technology and contents of the show related to the culture of Teotihuacán.

The Christie projectors were located in two mobile units and were managed by NUUP software developed by Cocolab from Mac Pro workstations. The total brightness of the image projected by the 19 projectors exceeded 850,000 lumens, an impressive figure rarely seen before in Mexico.

The Christie Roadie 4K45 used are projectors of 3DLP® technology, native 4K resolution at 60 Hz (upgradeable to 120 Hz) and 45,000 lumens, making them the brightest lamp-based projectors on the market. They incorporate Christie TruLife technology that ensures great chromatic realism and image fidelity never seen before.

These are ideal projectors for the rental & staging sector, and have built-in warping and blending, which allows pixels to be mapped on any projection surface. They are very good equipment and gave us the right luminosity and quality so that the experience in this project was of great quality, says Alejandro Machorro, founding partner of Cocolab.

Ernesto Armus, General Manager of Christie Mexico, said: "We are delighted that our Christie Roadie 4K45 projectors have contributed to creating a video mapping show so impactful that attendees will not forget for a long time. Rarely has such a large number of projectors of such power used in a single event been seen in action in Mexico."

Cocolab used the highest scientific standards, norms and lighting criteria for pre-Hispanic and historical monuments, with the slogan that they do not affect or compromise the integrity of the structures or their cultural, historical and artistic values.

The 280 performances of Night Experience in Teotihuacan, 45 minutes long, registered an influx of almost 45,000 people in their two seasons. The third season will start next November.
