Hot Desking, a trend for productive workspaces

Mexico. Currently, a worker's office day could be: he wakes up on Monday morning and drives to his destination. When you arrive, an app on your phone automatically detects when you have parked in the parking lot, then the worker immediately receives a mobile notification with your temporary desktop location.

According to Humanscale, a company that manufactures ergonomic products for comfort at work, this trend with the name of Hot Desking, is already being incorporated into many office buildings today. For example, in the "Amsterdam at the Edge", the greenest building in the world, this work dynamic is already a reality for workers – and other modern office buildings are already incorporating these trends as well.

Why did this trend grow in the world of work?
The reality is that organizations are being heavily influenced by the needs of millennial workers. In addition, there are significant cost savings when square footage is reduced to just the essentials in workspaces.

On the other hand, there are also cultural benefits: the willingness of companies to provide a flexible schedule for a better work-life balance seems to have a positive impact on productivity, and when professionals decide to go to the office, employees can interact and share ideas about their projects and goals more freely.

Creativity and collaboration in work teams seem to increase with the development of open space designs, as does the exchange of ideas between people, who do not normally interact in a more traditional office design.

Of course, a specific type of work environment is not suitable for all industries and sectors. Some positions may require workers to have more enclosed office workspaces, allowing for moments of concentration. For all hot-desking users, drawbacks can include the difficulty of locating team members they need to talk to, or having to laboriously carry and track digital devices and physical files – among other topics.

Currently, designers and companies are working to solve these problems by finding a balance between traditional and hot-desking plans, which are more open. The modern office will continue to evolve, but it is essential that today's workspaces are designed to accommodate the unique needs of multiple desktop users.

In conclusion, both new generations of workers and current technological trends such as the Internet of Things (IoT), increasingly lighter computers and laptops and radical changes in corporate IT policies point to a radical transformation of offices and jobs compared to how they had historically been designed. Humanscale recommends that individual workspace design and furniture evolve to maximize today's technology needs, while providing a healthy and comfortable user experience.

The latest Humanscale products in Mexico to adapt to new office trends:

It's a one-stop workspace solution that enhances the computing experience. Weighing just 2.3 kg, M/Connect's aluminium and steel structure supports up to two external monitors of 9 kg each connected to a laptop. It also supports display adapters, which can be purchased separately to add more external displays.

Wide range of lighting: Humanscale's innovative work lamps have been designed, like all its products, with performance, simplicity and beauty as objectives. The lamps help reduce eye strain, increase comfort reading on the computer screen and reduce energy use and costs. They feature a sustainable design and employ advanced LED technology for the user to work comfortably and companies to reduce their carbon footprint.
