Trends in high luminosity video projection

Mexico. There is no doubt that technology is increasingly becoming the trigger for the development of new markets and even entire industries. In terms of video projection, the segment of high luminosity equipment (specifically from 15,000 lumens onwards) was going through a lethargy, since when LED screens were born, the market demand focused on them, everyone wanted to acquire one.

It should be noted here that the size of the projection and the high resolution / quality of the images obtained, are the main advantages of video projectors over LED screens, it is more practical to transport a laser device of 25,000 lumens that can project a screen, for example, 16 x 9 meters with native resolution of 1920 x 1200 dpi, than a huge screen, which has a higher cost if it had those technical characteristics and its transfer is not easy.

However, thanks to the birth of videomapping (video projection on large surfaces), this was largely reversed, although at first the business moved slowly in Mexico, since only government entities were listed as real customers. But for just over three years the scenario has changed: With the fall in content costs and the increase in the supply of large equipment for rent, the demand for videomapping and projectors of more lumens grew and extended to private initiative in the sectors of entertainment, culture, architecture, sports and industry.

In Croma Digital we have experts in this technology and extensive experience in the video projection market with the specialty of integrator of high-end equipment in the modalities of sale and rental of the same. Offering the highest quality of solutions and services to users of projectors of more than 5,000 lumens, has positioned us as one of the most important suppliers in the industry and as a leader in the displacement of high brightness and high cost technology, that is why we are very demanding when selecting the equipment we work with.

Other technological improvements that are driving the growth of the high-brightness video projection market are the decrease in the weight of the equipment, the replacement of the lamp by the laser beam, and the incorporation of the software in the hardware. Laser beam technology undoubtedly came to transform the industry, with great benefits such as the long life of the equipment that now ranges from 20,000 to 40,000 hours, depending on the use and brand. On the other hand, the durability of the lamp undoubtedly had a quantum leap in relation to the life of the equipment versus maintenance costs.

In terms of image quality and color, there is a technology that also changed the user's perception and has made it stricter: 3LCD www.3lcd.com, which uses three projection panels (chips) instead of one, offers bright images with natural image quality, sharp details and an intense and undivided color, which gives the projections three times greater brightness than other equipment on the market, in addition to illuminating them with the same intensity in both black and white and color. This innovation was integrated by the manufacturer Epson in its devices eight years ago and is one of the differentiators that has positioned it as the number one in the video projection market in Mexico and globally, in addition to its high luminosity equipment is light and has one of the friendliest and most complete software in the entire industry.

For a high luminosity video projection project to be successful, it requires a high level of professionalism, versatile equipment, high quality and with effective support from the manufacturer of the same, that is why we work with companies like Epson, which has, for example, several service centers that respond immediately to any eventuality.

In the vast majority of the events in which we participate we provide the service to the user through third parties, mainly, projectors, servers, wiring, we generate content, we provide personnel, according to what is required, in Croma Digital we guarantee a great commitment with our clients so that the event is a success, which we achieve from our experience. We have made projections in emblematic places and large facades, either fixed installation or by event, among some buildings in which we have made mapping is the Monument to the Revolution, the Latin American Tower and important buildings, as well as churches in more than 15 states, government palaces, hotels, domes, tents, football stadiums, baseball and we have held countless corporate events.

Another important element for the success of an event is the choice of the video projector, which must be made according to the needs of the same. Here we recommend what a user who wants to acquire a computer should look for: The brightness, resolution and technology that it has is the most important, depending on the use that is going to be given. For example, someone who holds conferences, needs a projector that emits good video quality, vivid colors and that the characters in presentations or pivot tables are read perfectly.

For this a minimum WUXGA resolution of 1920 x 1200 dpi is required, since with a lower than this, there is loss of information in the characters and the letters are not distinguished, a low resolution is, for example, XGA at 1024 x 768 dpis, which is obsolete because its magnification format is 4:3 and currently, almost all computers offer 16:9 or 16:10.

The other key factor in a video projector choice is the light source. The lamp costs less to start but in the long run you pay more for constant maintenance, changes of the same and additional damage due to the great heat that is generated, in addition to the loss of its brightness is much more noticeable in a certain period of time. On the other hand, a laser equipment has a higher cost but gives a longer duration in hours before requiring service.

Let's wait and see what the immediate future of high-brightness video projectors holds. It is expected that they will continue to evolve in resolution, whose current level we consider ahead of the requirements of the market, since native 2K and 4K UHD equipment exist, when the standard is still 1920 x 1200 in WUXGA.

For now we see that equipment with a more durable and more compact light source is coming. On the other hand, the durability of the light source is undoubtedly something that needs to be improved. We will begin to see even more convergence between software and hardware, with the attenuation of the inclusion of so-called firmwares, to whose distribution, brands must pay greater attention, before they become a headache for the industry. Finally, better resolutions, smaller size and as mentioned, lower weight, are the technological trends we foresee.
