International. The company Philips announced that it set itself the goal of investing about 2,000 million euros in 2015 to contribute to the trend of consumption of sustainable products, in what it has called green innovation.
The announced investment is part of the EcoVision program and seeks to apply it in the company's three sectors: health care, consumption and lifestyle and lighting.
The consumption of environmentally friendly or ecologically sustainable products is increasing worldwide and the figures provided by Jim Andrew, Chairman of the Sustainability Board and Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer at Philips, prove this.
Sales of its green products in 2011 accounted for 39% of the total marketed and are well on their way to reaching the goal of 50% by 2015. The healthcare sector achieved the highest growth in nominal sales of green products at 25%, while the Lighting sector introduced more than 4,000 new green products in 2011.
In 2011 Philips invested €479 million in green innovation dedicated to managing global challenges related to energy care, materials and performance. In total, the Lighting sector accounted for more than 60% of spending on green innovation with the investment of 291 million euros.
The pronouncement was made on the occasion of the celebration on June 5 of the World Environment Day proposed by the United Nations Programme.
