United States. With a size of 7.4 inches, researchers at the University of Arizona have presented what until now is the largest flexible color screen in the world, achieved through OLED technology.
The 480x360xRGB active matrix OLED display is based on PEN (polyethylene naphthalate) as a substrate and its oxide thin-film transistors are made with IGZO (Indium gallium zinc oxide) technology.
The Department of Flexible Screens at the University of Arizona continues to work on the development of this type of technology and increase the 7.4 inches of diagonal of this design.
These advances demonstrate once again the trend towards equipment based on inorganic light-emitting diodes. In fact, some brands like LG and Samsug, for example, have announced that their commercial products will have an OLED tilt in the near future.
Also, by mixing end-film and metal-oxide field-effect transistors, an extended and cost-effective process, the arrival in the military, industrial and commercial fields can be accelerated, as manufacturers can use existing production lines instead of investing in specialized equipment.
