Epson seeks to raise educational standards with technology

International. Epson announced the experience of Valtteri Bottas, the driver of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport team, in his visit to the school where he attended primary school in Finland, to generate a use case that highlights the importance of interactive technology and the size of the screens for better learning in the classroom.

The Formula 1 star participated in the recording of the video #FinnishClass which shows how students actively and attentively follow a class dynamic in Finland, the leading country in primary education, using an interactive video projector from Epson, the manufacturer that leads this market worldwide and in Mexico.

The World Economic Forum, in its global competitiveness report 2017-18, ranks Finland for the second year as the number one country in primary education and number two in secondary education. Finnish students are faced throughout their academic life only with a standard exam, for the success of which teachers develop the most effective teaching methods for their classes.

Epson believes that motivating and involving students means giving higher priority to the collaborative and interactive environment in the educational field, as does Finland, which shares this passion for innovation, since in that country there are rates of use of interactive projectors that exceed by 57%, proportionally, the rates of the rest of the world.

As for screen size, market research indicates that 50% of students have difficulty reading content projected on a standard 70-inch screen. On the other hand, 80% of educational materials are remembered visually and 90% through interactive classes, compared to a retention of only 25% in the case of conventional theoretical classes. The interactive classroom dynamics and readable content shown in the video #FinnishClass demonstrate the level of impact technology should have on today's classrooms.

Hans Dummer, Head of Visual Instruments at Epson Europe, said: "The range of our interactive projectors reflects the advantages of using large screens and dynamic teaching solutions, so that innovative schools in countries such as Finland have the perfect opportunity for their students to make the most of the teaching they receive in them. It's great to see the impact our products have in the classroom and we're excited about the continued role Epson solutions play in schools around the world."
