Latin America. For the sixth consecutive year, the worldwide support for Earth Hour grew, an initiative of WWF in which the lights are turned off for an hour seeking to raise awareness about the consequences of climate change. In the latest version, developed on March 31, 6,494 cities from 140 countries participated.
The countries of Latin America were not far behind and also turned off the lights in emblematic buildings, public parks and monuments. In the case of Argentina, 29 municipalities from 14 provinces participated, with different activities that had as their main alternative the recital of Kevin Johansen + The Nada with LED lights.
For Peru this was the fourth edition of Earth Hour. According to the data of the organizers, one in three Peruvians with access to electricity participated in the day, in which the lights of the historic center of Lima were turned off, including 15 monuments, squares and buildings. A large group of Peruvians met with lit candles in Lima.
The activities for this symbolic act in Chile focused on the city of Valparaiso, generating a special meaning for being this World Heritage Site. In other Chilean cities, different activities were also carried out.
In the cities of Mocoa, Bogotá, Medellín and Cali, the central acts were held in Colombia during this day, in which around 8,000 people participated through different activities such as bicycle rides.
