International. An efficient system of solar-powered LED lights for street lighting, which reduces energy costs and CO2 emissions, was designed by the company Philips.
The Solar Gen2, as it has been called, allows a space between lighting poles of 50 meters, higher than the lighting currently used, fully complying with the lighting standards required by the countries of the European Union in the ME3 standard for roads.
The system, developed together with NXP Semiconductors, is charged throughout the day and at night can supplement the capacity of the conventional power grid.
The company explained that this system can be very valuable for regions that are close to the equator, as they receive many hours of light a day.
The system uses the new highly bright LED bulbs, along with exclusive and patented optics to create the most robust and efficient street lighting system. Also, a smart recharge controller, developed by NXP Semiconductors, ensures the transfer of the maximum amount of energy from solar panels to batteries.
The Solar Gen2 features the Philips Ledgine, which allows LED modules and conductors to be replaced and updated over time. Additionally, it includes theft prevention.
