Increasingly flat TVs

Japan. Japanese flat-screen TVs have become the country's flagship product as they are no longer just getting bigger and more efficient, but are now thinner.

In the last Ceatec 2007 competition, the prize for the flattest TV went to a Sony electroluminescent display (OEL) device, only three millimeters thick, 50 times thinner than most liquid crystal display (LCD) TVs. which are four times thinner than cathode tube devices, if you compare televisions of the same screen size.

The thinness of this screen is due to the fact that OEL technology does not require backlighting, unlike plasma or LDC systems, since it is illuminated by electric current to offer an image with an unparalleled contrast.
