Datapath helps illuminate the Melody Maker Hotel in Cancun

Mexico. Cancun is one of the most important tourist destinations in Mexico, attracting more than 35 million visitors in 2018. The competition for business and the need to excel has never been greater.

Located on the beach, close to the city centre, Melody Maker, named after the British music magazine of the same name, is described as the largest party hotel in the world, combining the lifestyle and excitement of a beachfront hotel with the amenities of a luxury resort.

With more than 400 rooms spread over 16 floors, and an outdoor club that has hosted prominent DJs and artists such as Paris Hilton, David Guetta and Armin Van Buuren, Melody Maker is proud to stay ahead of the competition and offer world-class entertainment experiences to its guests. As part of a recent upgrade to the hotel facilities, Melody Maker decided to raise the bar.

With the desire to create a more immersive, more spectacular and more memorable experience for the guests attending her events, Melody Maker made the decision to use the exterior of the hotel, transforming it into a giant canvas of 7,000 square meters, creating one of the largest permanent 3D mapping screens in the world.

The facility, the largest of its kind for any hotel in the world, will also help Melody Maker differentiate itself from its competitors, while offering an evening visual spectacle for spectators, both on and off the coast.

Aiming to fulfill Melody Makers' ambitions were Madrid-based New Media Creative Technology Studio and Kiev-based Front Pictures, two projection mapping specialists with over 30 years of experience between them, who provided the projection system used to light the hotel.

The Front Pictures team, which has provided visualization solutions for some of the world's leading brands, such as Ferrari, BMW and Disney, was responsible for systems engineering and integration.

Using their vast knowledge and experience in delivering such high-profile projects, the team decided to use four next-generation Datapath Fx4/H display wall controllers to distribute the 32MP video signal (powered by a single Screenberry media server) to 16 Barco UDX-W32 projectors strategically located outside the hotel.

In total, 3 km of fiber optic cables were used to connect all the components, creating the first permanent 3D mapping facility for a hotel.

"Datapath Fx4 display drivers are an ideal solution for increasing the number of displays that can be connected to a media server. Combined with the unique features of our Screenberry media server, they allowed us to greatly reduce the overall complexity of the system," commented Vitaliy Slyusarenko, Head of Imaging at Front Pictures.

He continued: "Keeping it simple is our philosophy in systems design, which has proven to be a successful strategy and is appreciated by our customers. That's what makes our solutions more affordable without compromising on quality and reliability."
