Industria AV will have a specialized university in Mexico

Mexico. When to support its growth it required looking for new professionals who were linked to the operation, the Licoma company found a drawback, there are no universities in Mexico, nor in Latin America, that offer careers or specialized technologies in the audiovisual industry.

This is how Erick López, director of Licoma, came up with the idea of founding a university that would allow the AV industry to have professionals with degrees that are directly related to the various areas of the industry.

Today, after a year of having had the idea, the physical headquarters of the Universidad Escuadra and the academic program that it will offer are being built at the same time, focused on both engineering and techniques, certification courses and homologation of degrees by experience, as allowed by Mexican legislation.

Erick López told AVI LATINOAMÉRICA that because the lack of specific professionals is a situation that affects the entire industry in the region, his idea has been supported by other companies in the sector, which together with a multidisciplinary group among which are pedagogues, lawyers, and other professionals, are developing the curriculum of each of the careers.

In addition, they have achieved the support of manufacturers so that students can graduate with certifications in their technologies and hope to have the support of AVIXA so that future engineers also have the CTS certification. The next step is to seek relationships with universities outside of Mexico that allow exchanges for students and homologation of degrees.

According to Erick López, at the moment the Universidad Escuadra, which will begin registration in February 2019, will offer two audiovisual engineering, one focused on rental companies and another on integration. In addition, he will have a career in AV business administration.

For its part, the first physical headquarters of the University, will be located in the city of Puebla, in a new building thinking from its design to provide a theoretical and practical education in the industry, with all the facilities of space and technologies that allow from assembling a truss in a classroom, adapt an auditorium for 500 people, until making a mapping projection on one of the facades of the building.

A next headquarters is planned in Mexico City.
