Manufacturer Sennheiser was nominated for the 2013 CES Innovations International Award in the Design and Engineering category for its IE 800 in-ear headphones, a dynamic, audiophile-grade headset that delivers brilliant treble, precise bass response, and detailed, natural sound with a response frequency of between five and 46500 Hz.
Its housing is made of dermo-protective ceramic, while the ear covers are made of silicone. This eliminates risks of allergies or skin irritation. In addition, Sennheiser has developed new oval ear adapters based on extensive international ergonomics studies.
The company highlighted that the strong point is the Extra Wide Band (XWB) driver, which with a diameter of only 7mm, is the smallest sound bandwidth transducer currently found among dynamic headphones.
The IE 800 also has a ventilated magnet system. The oscillating motion of the diaphragm produces a current of air in the magnetic system housing, which causes the diaphragm to wobble a bit.
Products that entered this prestigious program are judged by a panel of industrial designers, engineers, and independent media members to honor exceptional design and engineering in innovative consumer electronics products in various categories.
These awards have recognized achievements in design and engineering since 1976. The Best Innovation honor rewards products with the highest scores according to the jury's rating.
