Ecuador. The new airport in the city of Quito, for which its name has not been defined and which will be ready to start operating next October, already has lighting along the 4,100 meters of the runway, in which white, red and blue lights were installed.
Quiport President Philippe Baril, the concessionaire in charge of the airport's construction, said the lighting installed on the runways consists of lights that help pilots recognize whether they are flying low or high, known as Papy. In addition, the blue taxiing signal lights and the red ones that indicate the place of contact of the plane with the ground.
This lighting was tested with the landing of the first aircraft on the runway of the new air terminal, a Bishcraf that is used as a laboratory for tests in the terminals of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, DGAC.
The entity, in charge of supervising and certifying the quality of the installed lighting, gave its approval to the work and its managers assured that with it there will be a safe night airworthiness in the new air terminal.
The new airport of the Ecuadorian capital is located on a plot of around 4,000 hectares. The energy it will consume will be provided by the national electricity grid from Nayón and by the Tababela substation. About 7,000 people participated in its construction.
