Brazil. On the first of January, the law promoting incentives for the development of the Internet of Things came into force in Brazil, which was sanctioned by President Jair Bolsonaro on December 17.
The move is expected to heat the sector, make technology cheaper, bring investment to Brazil and generate more than 10 million jobs in the coming years. The legislation provides tax benefits until 2025.
The main idea behind the Internet of Things is to make life easier for users and customers, simplifying the use of certain devices and even allowing the automation of tasks. There are several examples such as connected refrigerators, through which it is possible to see images of the interior and be warned that some products have been exhausted, and agricultural machines capable of controlling irrigation, transmitting information about moisture, acidity and nutrients in the soil, which guarantees the producer more planting to harvest efficiency.
With the new rule, some taxes applied to telecommunications stations that integrate machine-to-machine communication systems were eliminated. The law also established rules for the licensing of such equipment to the National Telecommunications Agency, Anatel.
Currently, it is estimated that there are more than 15 billion devices connected to the Internet in the world. With the exemption promoted by the Government, this figure is expected to exceed 35 billion by 2025.
