Cisco Powers New Wireless Era with Wi-Fi 6

Latin America. Cisco introduced solutions to embrace a new era of wireless connectivity. Wi-Fi 6 (also known as 802.11ax). The new standard for Wi-Fi networks is redesigning the possibilities for businesses, powering a new era of immersive wireless experiences and connecting billions of things.

Based on the same fundamental wireless innovations as 5G, these new standards will change the way businesses and consumers interact with the world. Beyond being significantly faster, Wi-Fi 6 offers up to 400% more capacity and is more effective in high-density environments such as large conference rooms, stadiums or event halls.

Latency has been greatly improved, allowing for near real-time use cases. Wi-Fi 6 is also easier with the batteries of connected devices and provides a more predictable user experience.

Today, Cisco is launching several products and making partnerships so that companies can deliver a truly disconnected and seamless experience.

Wi-Fi 6 access points: The new access points in the Catalyst and Meraki wallets go beyond providing the new Wi-Fi 6 standard. With custom programmable chipsets and access to industry-leading analytics capabilities, Cisco's latest access points deliver a smarter, more secure wireless network. The new access points are also multilingual, with the ability to communicate with multiple IoT protocols, including BLE, Zigbee, and Thread.

Central Switch for Campus Network: Cisco enhances the bar with the Catalyst 9600 family of core switches, which will serve as a foundation for the successful operation of any network. To deliver the most secure and efficient wireless experience, organizations need a single network fabric that brings together wired and wireless. Built as the next evolution of the Catalyst 6000, the most successful networking product in The history of the Internet, the new Catalyst 9600 will be the foundation of the next generation of intent-driven enterprise networking.

New developer resources: Wi-Fi 6 and 5G represent an incredible opportunity for developers. To enable them to create the immersive experiences that these new levels of connectivity promise, Cisco DevNet introduces a new  DevNet Wireless Dev Center. DevNet, Cisco's developer network, provides the learning labs, sandboxes, and developer resources needed to build game-changing wireless applications. Cisco Catalyst and Meraki access platforms are open and programmable down to the chipset level, enabling applications to leverage network programming power in new and exciting ways.

New partner ecosystem: Prior to the launch of its Wi-Fi 6 access points, Cisco completed interoperability testing with Intel and Samsung to address the inevitable gaps that come with a new standard. Samsung, Boingo, GlobalReach, Presidio and others are also joining the Cisco-led Open Roaming project, to solve one of today's biggest wireless problems. The consortium aims to facilitate the seamless and secure jump between Wi-Fi and LTE networks, and public Wi-Fi on board.
