International. Epson is redefining work in the classroom. This is the case of Takashima Elementary School, in Nagaro, Japan, where an exclusive extracurricular activity was implemented: each group decides what they want to study during the year. This year, sixth graders selected the project titled "Let's Make Healthy Forests!" ("Let's make healthy forests!"). For this project, they used Epson's Moverio smart glasses as a communication tool.
Epson engineers began collaborating with the children a year ago, with the project "Contemplating the Stars with Moverio", aiming to learn in a fun way. Now, the children, who had been studying forests, wanted to communicate using advanced technological devices to make sure people could understand the importance of forests.
On July 7, the children were divided into nine groups, based on the topics chosen in discussions with the engineers. During the activity, they uploaded photos and videos that they had taken themselves, with Moverio glasses, from the forest along with materials they had prepared on a computer.
Using an app on a tablet, the images were displayed on several Moverio computers. With this function, each group was able to share their reflections on the forest to the rest of their peers. When the children wore the Moverio lenses, they were excited to see the images that appeared before their eyes like a large floating screen in front of them.
By participating in the activity, the children clearly identified with whom they wanted to share their experience: "I would like my grandparents to enjoy these images of the forest since they cannot visit a real one." As a result, children will make some changes to the content and improve the quality of their presentation using the "magic glasses".
The Moverio offer users the possibility to enjoy high-definition videos, games, music and web content anytime, anywhere. The lenses show large semi-transparent images floating in a background. The Moverio BT-200 model is designed for children from high school onwards, so Epson engineers were present in these extracurricular classes to ensure the safety of the students, they also established adequate time limits for the use of the lenses.
