Panasonic installs 20 giant LED screens in autodrome

International. Panasonic reported that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, has installed a spectacular video system with 20 new giant screens with Panasonic LED technology at different points of its legendary 2.5-mile circuit.

The screens, located in front of the main stand and inside the oval that makes up the track, total 3,517m2 of surface, more than twice the size of the previous system. The image quality is extraordinary thanks to the use of LED modules with 10mm pixels, the best resolution that have been used in any racetrack in the world. Thanks to this technology, the screens will offer brighter images, great realism and color fidelity.

The video system, which is operated from a modern control room, allows to deploy a wide variety of content in High Definition, from video and animations, to three-dimensional graphics. In this way, viewers will be able to enjoy the live broadcast of the races, repetition of outstanding actions, visualization from angles on board the cars, statistical information (positions, speed or tire pressure of each car), 3D animations and interaction with social networks.

Sponsors and advertisers of Indianapolis Motor Speedway will also benefit from many more options to spread interactive messages, showcase their products and strengthen brand presence among the more than 300,000 spectators that the racetrack houses.

The system, which came into full operation during the recent edition of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race (May 24, 2015), is part of the modernization project of the most emblematic racetrack in the United States of America.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway joins other renowned North American motorsport venues that feature video systems with Panasonic LED screens such as Texas Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway and Sonoma Raceway.

Figures from the Panasonic project at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway

  • 20 giant screens with Panasonic LED technology
  • 18,252 LED modules to form the 20 screens
  • Capacity to display 281 trillion colors
  • The larger screens measure 18.2 x 12.1 meters, located at Turns 1 and 4, in addition to the Gasoline Alley area.
  • Control room with broadcast transmission capacity to power the display system.
