International. SGM's LT-100 and LT-200 pixel LED tubes were deployed in an unusual context, when one of London's leading non-traditional choirs, London Contemporary Voices (LCV), held its Reflections concert at the 18th century church, St. John-at-Hackney.
To work on the production design for Ali Abbas and Keny Ega-Bourgeois, lighting designer Owen Pritchard-Smith of Spirit Design obtained a number of 3D graphic tubes from Chris Morgan's Blueprint Events inventory to create a ring of bright light coming from the LED tubes, each individually controlled.
LCV wanted to present a unique scenario for the 300 people who attended. And this is where the one- and two-meter SGM pixel tubes came into play. Tasked with creating a unique environment in which the choir would be immersed, Owen Pritchard-Smith admitted:
"My initial idea was to use projection to bring this game to life, and reinforce the concept of emotional reflection through content and architectural lighting. But this entails a number of issues; first, having the choir submerged within a 360-degree ensemble turned out to be a nightmare of light and camera; secondly, projection is an expensive and heavy pre-production option and thirdly, the production team was running out of time for staging and construction."
"These tubes provided ideal levels and an environment for acting," Pritchard-Smith continued. "Their flexibility allowed me to create 3D effects that wouldn't have been possible with other options. Their light weight allowed them to be placed and moved quickly and easily, speeding up the process. I was very satisfied with their performance and decided to dress the choir in white to allow them to reflect the colours he sent in his direction - totally immersing them in the show."
