El Salvador. After the study carried out by the National Energy Council, CNE, of El Salvador, seeking to implement measures that help with the reduction of the maintenance cost of the buildings of the country's public health system, they agreed to implement energy saving systems.
The pilot projects will be installed in nine of the hospitals that have energy analyses executed within the framework of the study Energy audits in public hospitals, which will be financed by the CNE for an amount of up to US$125,000.
The document, which was delivered to the Ministry of Health, reveals that the consumption of electrical energy for the three levels of care is mainly due to the demand in lighting and air conditioning, with the difference that second-level hospitals have a smaller percentage in air conditioning equipment.
This balance shows the priorities in the implementation of measures in electrical equipment to achieve better energy efficiency. In this sense , they must make investments with a total amount of US$1.2 million, which will translate into an estimated saving of US$461,652 per year in electricity billing.
In addition, with the aim of giving sustainability to the technical work that must be developed within the health centers through the Institutional Energy Efficiency Committees, they trained 29 public sector officials in the first Diploma on Energy Efficiency, certifying 16 officials of the Ministry of Health.
