Chile. Starting in 2013, the Chilean government will begin an evaluation of 4,600 homes in order to know the levels of sustainability of the new constructions that are carried out in the country.
For that, through the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism of Chile, they are promoting the "Seal of efficiency", which will qualify with letters from "A" to "G", depending on the degree of energy efficiency and taking into account that the "A" will be the best rating.
In this way, according to Ministry officials, they seek to increase the construction of homes with high energy efficiency standards. In addition, they want this not to be an issue only for high-strata housing, they also want it to be included in subsidized housing.
The assessment of homes will include aspects that require high energy consumption, such as hot water, heating systems and lighting. For this, they will have qualified professionals who will establish which homes have an optimal level of efficiency, that is, they achieve energy savings close to 80% each year.
It should be remembered that energy efficiency policies, to which solutions such as home automation are linked, have been an important policy of the current Chilean government, which led the discussion on this issue at the last Rio + 20 meeting in Brazil.
