Kazuo Hirai, who currently serves as the company's executive vice president, comes to this position on the recommendation of the outgoing president thanks to his performance in his work in the network entertainment and PlayStation business units.
The process of finding a successor began in 2009 with the appointment of a new generation of leaders who worked directly with the president.
For his part, Sir Howard Stringer will continue in his position until the shareholders' meeting, which takes place in June, approves his appointment as Chairman of the Board, the month in which the current Chairman of the Board Yotaro Kobayashi must retire. At the same meeting, they will also seek to have Kazuo Hirai appointed to the Board.
Of course, the designated president of Sony showed what his strategic lines will be for the coming years. "The path we must take is clear: lead the growth of our core electronics businesses: digital imaging, smart telephony and gaming; bring about change in the TV business and accelerate innovation that allows us to create new business domains."
