International. The shipment of 3D screens reached 6.6 million units in the third quarter of 2011 for an increase of 27% compared to the second quarter of the year, according to the report delivered by Display Search.
The new technology continues to gradually steal a space in the LCD screen market and by the fourth period of 2011 the 3D segment is expected to show a 30% growth in shipping. In terms of market penetration for this third quarter of the year, 3DVVs accounted for 12% of LCD screen shipments.
While there are still many questions about the lack of 3D content and services, LCD panel manufacturers have touted these systems through lower prices and the introduction of new 3D technologies with a better price-effectiveness ratio, Display Search explains in the report.
The firm also predicted that by the end of the year shipments of 3D LCD TVs will reach 21.5 million units, with a share of 10% compared to the other types of LCD panels. Finally, the research forecasts a penetration of 20% by the third quarter of 2012.
