How to ensure energy in critical situations

energía situaciones críticas

Latin America. Electrical energy is one of the most valuable and used resources today. The accelerated virtuality of the majority of the population is now a factor that allows us to recognize the magnitude of the problem that is had when there is a lack of continuity in the electricity service, since this has an impact on low productivity and also on large losses for some industries.

It is important to emphasize that mission-critical industries have greater sensitivity in any power outage, for example, recently a hospital in Santa Marta put more than 60 patients at risk for the interruption in service, not having a reliable backup and switching system.

Therefore, it is important to recognize that for such cases there are a type of critical energy solutions, such as transfer boards for low voltage, ranging from 30 to 4000 A, which will guarantee the continuity of the electrical flow when there is a change of network source, to an alternate source or, to an emergency (diesel generator or power plant), in the most appropriate way for the system, as provided by ASCO Power Technologies, a world-leading supplier.

Transfers are a fundamental part of electrical installations since, through continuous monitoring, it is recognized when there is a lack of energy and the second source must enter. A solution of such importance that would have improved and reactivated power service in the earthquake-affected areas in Mexico quickly, offering an avenue to collect energy data and control important backup power functions.

Last month, the government of Colombia approved the Energy Transition Law, which contributes to continue consolidating the country as a world reference in the sector, therefore, investments or projects that include smart metering equipment that contribute to energy efficiency will also have tax benefits of VAT exclusion, tariffs and accelerated depreciation, established in Law 1715.

Thus, transfer boards are solutions that allow to have a robust system, guaranteeing the continuity of the service through 4 transition models, in which the change of energy source can be made, which will be established depending on the system of the industries, such as:
• Open Transition: Direct pre-connection interrupt switching that serves a wide variety of applications.
• Delayed transition: avoids large input currents which provides time to reduce motor speed and inductive loads.
• Closed transition: Overlaps pre-connection switching power supplies that prevent momentary power outages.
• Soft charge: increases the energy of an original source and decreases the energy of an alternative source simultaneously.

"Customization is the key to optimizing facilities," said Anthony Landi, director of engineering. "Because each transfer system is custom-designed, it allows ASCO POWER to partner with other solutions from companies like Schneider Electric that can configure systems for any mission-critical need, say, in data centers, healthcare institutions and industrial facilities.

Solutions like these provide essential access that allows different industries and users to see, evaluate the status, events and trends of energy equipment, predictions and actions underway because without a doubt when there is a lack of continuity in the electric service, this translates into lack of productivity and large losses from the industries.
